On April 2, 2013, at St. Paul's Hospital, Elizabeth (Liz) passed away peacefully with her devoted niece Debbie by her side. Liz was predeceased by her parents Josiah and Elsie Wade, brother James and sister Grace, and her beloved husband Jack Burgess. Jack and Liz loved living in the West End and their favourite pastime was walking around the Stanley Park seawall, followed by brunch on Denman. They also travelled extensively and enjoyed trips across Canada, the UK, New Zealand, Mexico, Hawaii and the US. Liz is survived by her sister, Joyce in Winnipeg, brother-in-law Ed and his wife Doreen, and her nieces and nephews. Liz with be sadly missed by family and friends across Canada and England, especially by dear friend Cathy and childhood friends Marilyn and Bob. Liz was born in Hamilton, Ontario on February 13, 1935 and was raised on a farm in the historic village of Ancaster. She moved to BC in 1958 and lived in the heart of Vancouver until her passing. Liz began her career with National Drugs and then spent 32 rewarding years in the personnel department of H.A. Simons Ltd. until her retirement in 2000. Liz enjoyed watching all sports, especially hockey (the Canucks), golf (Tiger), and curling (Stan and Debbie). She was a beautiful, intelligent, kind, generous and fiercely independent woman. Liz fought through her many health issues with dignity, determination and a strong spirit. She will always be in our thoughts and cherished in our memories. Special thanks to Braddan TCU and St. Elizabeth Health Services for helping Liz live independently in her home for as long as she did. And a heartfelt thanks to all the compassionate and caring staff at St. Paul's Hospital on 9C/D and Palliative Care. We will always remember your TLC and kindness. As per Liz's wishes, there will be no memorial service. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MS Society.
