ALDCROFT, George Traill
Born April 12th, 1925 and passed away October 29th, 2013, in Qualicum Beach. George was born in Drumheller, Alberta, and grew up in New Westminster where he and his family lived for many years. He was predeceased by his parents George and Clara, brother Stewart, as well as his wife Lillian and daughter Diane. He is survived by his son George (Judy), grandchildren Kimberley (Burke) Borthwick, Christopher (Emily) Aldcroft, and Kerri (Lou) Mezzarobba. He was also delighted to have his two great grandsons, Gus and Jacob. George was an athlete in his younger years and excelled at basketball. He played for T.J. Trapp Technical and the Royal Canadian Navy, in addition to a premier provincial league organized by the late Ken Wright that would later become the B.C. Boy's Provincial Championship Tournament. George was a World War II
veteran and served in the Royal Canadian Navy on the HMS Ettrick K254 in the Atlantic. After the war, he met and married the love of his life, Lillian (Cleven). George and Lillian were married for just over 59 years before she passed away suddenly on December 5, 2005. He had a long and successful career with the Great Northern/Burlington Northern Railroad serving in various management positions both in the U.S. and Canada. He retired after 35 years in 1981. Other than his family, George's passions were gardening and fishing. He spent many great summers with his children and later his grandson salmon and trout fishing. Our family will miss him dearly, but are comforted to know he will now be rejoined with his loved ones. We are thankful to have many fond memories of our father, grandfather, friend and mentor. He will always be the "captain of our ship". A private family memorial service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in George's memory to the charity of your choice.
