George (Alexandruk) Alexander

ALEXANDER _ George (Alexandruk) 1917-2005 George Alexander passed away on Sunday, May 15th at Bevan Lodge in Abbotsford after a lengthy illness. He was predeceased by his wife Dillie in September 2002 and will be sadly missed by his two sons Larry (Louise) of Abbotsford BC and Danny (Shirley) of Kamloops B C.; grandchildren Laurie Ball, Rob (Mirela), Scott (Cara), and Bryon (Rhonda) Alexander; great-grandchildren Michael (Theresia) Ball, Payton, Ryan, Kyle and Tyne; 1 great-great grandchild Jaimie; one brother Sandy Dmytrow of San Jose, California and one sister Helen (Arlo) Fry of Iowa City; his sisters-in-law Minnie Stogrin of Edmonton and Mary O'Neill of Surrey, brother-in-law Bill Smithaniuk of White Rock and many nieces and nephews throughout B.C. and Alberta. George was born in Sniatyn, Alberta. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II and then returned to Smoky Lake where he took up farming. Later he went into the hotel business where he worked in a number of hotels in the Edmonton and Fort St. John areas. He moved with his family to Surrey in 1965 where he worked in the lumber industry until his retirement in 1982. He enjoyed spending time in his garden and travelling to many parts of the world with his wife Dillie. George had many loves in his life and his greatest love was his wife Dillie. This was followed by his love of farming and the hotel business. The family would like to extend special thanks to Bevan Lodge for the wonderful care that the staff provided Dad during his stay with them. A Memorial Service celebrating the life of George will be held on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Avalon Surrey Funeral Home at 13288 108th Avenue, Surrey, B.C. V3T 2J6.
