CODRON, Hedie
November 28, 1924 - June 7, 2013
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather died peacefully at the age of 88. Predeceased by son David (1982), grandson Keith (1979), sister Martelle (1973), parents Julian (1979) and Alix (1993). Survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Joyce; children Mark, Kirk, Eric (Cheryl), Alix-Anne (Les), Michele Guerin (Gary) and Rose Dahl (Norm); 15 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Born in Belgium, he arrived in Canada in 1926 & was raised in North Battleford Sask. A veteran of WWII, he served as a tank gunner with the Canadian Armoured Regiment of Ontario Tanks. His tank and crew were the first to cross the Arno River to liberate Florence Italy in 1944. He also served in the Korean War in '51- '52. Dad & Mom were married January 9, 1953, came to Vancouver for their honeymoon and made New Westminster their home. He served as a psychiatric nurse for 32 years & retired from Woodlands School in 1985. Since then, he has spent his time travelling the world with Mom. They have visited numerous countries and spent decades travelling throughout North America in their R.V. He instilled in each of us, the value of hard work; a love of the outdoors; and a passion for football. A man larger than life, he taught us how to live – when you are in love with life. Prayers will be held Monday, June 17 at 7:00 p.m. and funeral mass Tuesday, June 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Saints Cyril & Methodius Slovak Parish (472 E.8th Ave. New Westminster).
