MILLS, Ian R. A.
August 10, 1918 - December 20, 2012
Ian was born during WWI in Bexhill, England, to Major Arthur Samuel Mills (Amherst, NS) and Dorothy Louise Madell (Bromley, England). His formative years were spent in West Vancouver, BC, along with his older brother Donald, younger brother Gordon and sister Joan. When Ian was 13, the family moved to Cape Town, RSA, where his father became the regional manager of Sun Life. During World War II, Ian served as a pilot in the RAF. After the war he qualified as a chartered accountant practicing his profession in Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. He returned to Canada in 1955. He was a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in South Africa, England and Canada. He joined the B.C. Power Commission in 1958 and retired as treasurer of BC Hydro in 1980. He is survived by his wife Estefania and their son Peter. He is survived by his eldest son David, his wife Mignon and their daughter Julia. He is also survived by his sister Joan in South Africa and many nieces, nephews and several good friends around the world. The funeral service is private. In his memory, donations would be appreciated to the BC Cancer Foundation or to the Ian Mills Fine Arts Bursary (for students in need) at the University Of British Columbia Awards Services, 500-5950 University Boulevard, Vancouver, BC, V6T 1Z3. "He loved the sea in all its moods."
