MARRIOTT, Isabel Alexandra
We knew it was coming but nonetheless are greatly saddened at the passing of a most beloved woman, Isabel Alexandra Marriott, at 7:02 p.m., Saturday, November 10, 2012. Charming the nurses in her short time at Peace Arch Hospital, Isabel was a vibrant, independent, honest woman who remained stoic till her very last breath. Living alone in her exceptionally tidy home in Chestnut Village (White Rock) far past what was "expected" of a woman her age - 94 - Isabel was a woman who defied conformity throughout her long life. Isabel leaves behind her daughter, Vicki; son, David; grandchildren Jennifer, Shawn, Brie, and Stephanie; great-grandchildren Gabriel, Devon, and Maria. She took her job as 'gramma' very seriously, regaling us with stories from the old days of tinker men, ice trucks, working the farm and dancing at the end of White Rock pier. She was a woman who exemplified grace, good manners and believed honesty was always the best course to follow. Her cheeky grin and the light in her eyes was passed down and best evidenced in the exploits of her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. What she accomplished in her lifetime may have been "no big deal" as she liked to say, but for those who knew her and loved her she was a good and kind soul that was the bedrock beneath those she loved. On her last day, Isabel denied any pain or fear, told her son, "...see you tomorrow" and seventy minutes later, calmly and peacefully breathed her last breath tucked safely in her granddaughter's arms. Her family would like to say a heartfelt thank you to her friends at Chestnut Village who made her feel safe and well cared for as well as the staff of the 6th floor at Peace Arch Hospital, especially Kimberly and Chiddy who were there at the end. That's my girl, Grandma. You are now an 'official' angel, safe up there with Jesus.
