Johan WIENTJES

WIENTJES, Johan H.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John H. Wientjes beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. John passed away on November 25, 2012 with no regrets and very grateful for a long and wonderful life. Born in Enschede, Holland on April 1, 1922 to parents Egidius and Anna. Younger brother to Gerda, Ann, Michael and Henry. In 1939 two weeks before the invasion of Holland, John and his family moved to a wheat farm in Alberta and later settled in the Lower Mainland. He met the love of his life Muriel at a Boeings plant over a piece of apple pie. John and brother Michael established Michael's Beauty Salon in New Westminster and were known as the "Blonde Apollos from Holland." An astute businessman, John opened three other Michael's Salons throughout the Lower Mainland. His New West location became an institution for over 40 years. John was a handsome man with a beautiful baritone voice. In his 20s he sang at the Pentages Theatre in Vancouver. He loved tennis and travelling to Hawaii and Palm Springs. But most of all he was proud of his family and adored his Murie. John will be remembered for his love of life, humour and beautiful smile. The sun was always shining for John. John is survived by his loving wife Muriel of 68 years, sister Ann Saharchuck, three children Karen (Wayne), Susan (Bill), David (Barbara); two grandchildren Lara and Jeremy; four great-grandchildren Darian, Luke, Andrew and Gabrielle. A celebration of John's life will be held in Delta at a later date.
