John Van Luven

August 15, 1945 - January 30, 2013
John passed away suddenly but peacefully at Surrey Memorial Hospital on January 30th, 2013. Born in Hamilton, Canada, to Jack and Christine Van Luven (who had met and married in London, England while in service during WW ll) he lived most of his life in West Vancouver and Surrey, B.C. John married his wife, Angela, in 1971 at St. James' Anglican Church, not realizing at that time that he would be devoting much of his later life to helping the lives and living conditions of the residents and workers of the Downtown Eastside area, for which he received the Meritorious Service Medal in 2005. He is survived by his loving wife Angela, sons Chris (Sherrie), Richard, and his much loved grandson, Jacob. Also left to mourn are his mother-in-law Hilda Darton, sister Barbara, brother Bill, and nephews and nieces. Requiem Mass will be celebrated Friday, February 8th at 10:30 a.m. at St. James' Anglican Church, 303 East Cordova St., Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James' Parish Foundation.
