January 31, 1939 – September 19, 2013
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, and grandfather, Mario Ballarin. With his family by his side, Mario passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 19, 2013 after a courageous two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Predeceased by sister-in-law Lily, Mario is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Angelina; children Sabrina (Tony), Edoardo (girlfriend Arlena), and Ricardo (Christina); four beautiful grandchildren, Adriano, Matteo, Gabriella, and Luca; brothers Pietro (Natalia) and Danilo, sister-in-law Maria (Joe), brother-in-law Roberto (Ninetta) and many cousins, nieces, and nephews in Canada and Italy. Mario was born in Italy on January 31st, 1939 in the town of Pianzano, Treviso, and immigrated to Canada in 1962 with his parents. He loved Canada but never forgot his Italian heritage. Mario enjoyed playing the trumpet with the Alpini band, watching gli Azzurri with his sons, and sharing a glass of wine with friends. Pappa, we will always remember your quiet and calm demeanor, your long-winded Italian proverbs, and your humour. Your hard work and honesty made us proud. Pappa, we love you, we miss you and we will never forget you. A special thanks to all the doctors and nurses who provided care through the years, especially Dr. Moccia. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Pancreatic Cancer Canada Foundation. A funeral mass will be offered on Wednesday, September 25 at 7pm at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 2025 Napier Street, Vancouver, BC. Private family entombment.
