I had Miss Addison for Grade 2 and 3, in 1973/74 and 1974/75 open area class at General Gordon.
She was by far one of the most memorable teachers as she was very involved and took the time to help you through everything. I remember the smarties and the cue cards. She gave us presents when we got the most stars in spelling at the end of the year.
She taught me to love writing and the importance of words and spelling. I loved hearing her travel stories to places like Fiji, she even brought back a conkle shell to show us.
We also had a budgie named Tweedy in the class that we would alternate weekends, taking it home to experience how to care for a pet. I always remember Miss Addison fondly.
Thank you for your influence and guidance, you made a difference!

My Dad knew Mary's brother at UBC and became a friend of Mary too. As a child, I visited Mary with my parents. What I shall always remember about Mary is her humour. She had a way of telling a story that was always funny. She used to have stories about her students too such as one saying 'send me to Victoria' instead of 'send us victorious' when singing God Save the Queen. I always enjoyed visiting her and the goodies were always great too! Mary loved life from what I remember and enjoyed sports. She had a unique laugh and I can still hear it now!

Miss Addison was my grade 2 teacher in 1979 at General Gordon, she was one of the nicer teachers back then, I remember the blue box filled with smarties she used to give out as rewards. Thank You Miss Addison, will always remember you.

I have fond memories of "Miss Addison" my grade 2 teacher at General Gordon in 1964.
All these years later I am a high school teacher and refer to "Miss Addison's rule" about not placing one punctuation mark over the top of another.
My English 10 Honours students recite back to me in unison when I say, "Whose rule is it?" when reviewing the placement of periods or comas at the end of a quotation:
"Miss Addison's."

Kate, Erin and I will miss Aunt Mary, and her stories of her adventures and travels. I believe the picture is from her trip rounding the Cape. She did indeed have the sea in her heart, in true Addison tradition.
