Patricia Pow 1922 - 2013

Patricia Edith (née BALL) passed away peacefully on January 7th, 2013 at Hart House Seniors Residence in Victoria, BC at age 90.

Pat was born on April 29th, 1922 in Vancouver, BC to George and Ottielie ("Delia") Ball. She grew up in Vancouver, graduating from King Edward Secondary School in 1939. She proceeded to the University of British Columbia where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1943.

After graduation Pat became one of the first female meteorologists in Canada at Montreal's Dorval Airport. While in Montreal she met Cyrus Graham ("Cy") Pow, a McGill University medical student. They married in Vancouver in 1945. Over the next fourteen years they had six children, raising their family in the Vancouver area.

Once her children were in school, Pat undertook another degree at UBC, this time in Education. She enjoyed a successful career as an elementary school teacher until Cy retired.

Pat and Cy escaped winter by travelling to Phoenix AZ, returning to the Vancouver area each spring. They also enjoyed travelling throughout the world. After Cy passed away, Pat moved to Victoria to live near to her youngest daughter, Wendy.

Always friendly and inquisitive, Pat made friends wherever she went. Her thoughtfulness, intellect, love of food and socializing, sense of humour, kindness and sense of propriety will be missed by all who knew her.

Pat was predeceased by her first daughter, Patty Lynn, and her husband of 56 years, Cy. She is survived by five children: Gordon (Marilyn), Barbara (Brian), Ric (Natasha), Douglas, and Wendy (Byron), by ten grandchildren (Cheryl, Andrea, Matthew, Alisa, Ariana, Nicholas, Alexander, Haley, David, Melanie) and by nine great-grandchildren.

The family thanks all Hart House staff for their loving care.

A memorial service will be held at First Memorial Funeral Services, 602 Kingsway, Vancouver, on Monday, January 14th at 2:00 pm.
