SMITH, Ruben Edward
Passed away peacefully in his 95th year on November 9, 2012. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, he moved to Vancouver where he attended school and met his closest friends including his loving wife of 70 years, Lyla, who passed away in May. He is survived by his daughter, Margery and husband, Neil Hokonson of Seattle, his sister, Eleanor Russell of Victoria, sisters-in-law Else Smith of North Vancouver, and Norma Embree of Powell River, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Ruben served in the Navy during WWII and always loved the water. Ruben was a talented carpenter and worked for Halse-Martin Construction for many years. He built numerous houses including a summer cabin at Boundary Bay where family and friends shared many happy times. Ruben and Lyla were long-time residents of N. Burnaby, loved dancing with the Chuckwagon 8's, and enjoyed walking, boating, golf, travel and spending time with friends. Ruben will be dearly missed but remembered fondly by all who knew him. There will be no service.
