Kenneth Russell

Kenneth Russell June 26, 1932 - May 9, 2013 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth Charles Russell on May 9, 2013 at the age of 80.

Survived by his loving wife of 58 years Patricia, daughter Cathy (Robert), sons Brian (Julia) and Dan (Paula), grandchildren Scott (Lisa), Tracy (Shaun), Palita, Anna, and Benjamin, along with his older brother William Russell and several nieces and nephews.

Ken was predeceased by his father (Samuel), mother (Elsie), sisters (Florence and Lily), and brothers (Samuel and Alan).

Born on June 26, 1932 Ken grew up in Kerrisdale, went to McGee High School and met Patricia Law at her family owned pool hall. After marrying in 1955 he and his young family moved to Richmond in 1960 where he lived for the rest of his life.

Ken worked 37 years for the BC Telephone Co. from 1950 until early retirement in 1987. He spent several years climbing hundreds of poles installing new telephone lines throughout the Lower Mainland all the way to Squamish, before spending many more years setting up and servicing PBX switchboards.

As a young father Ken was passionate about camping (spending many weekends at Birch Bay), cars (having owned over 50 in his life), new technology (often first in line for the latest gadget), and he also had a great love of (Big Band) music.

His favorite sport growing up was boxing and throughout most of his life could name every champion in every weight class. As a youngster he played soccer, basketball and lacrosse. As an adult he coached many years of boys' soccer in Richmond, including a Provincial Cup finalist for Legion 5. He also served as president of Richmond Juvenile Soccer.

Mostly he was known for his quick wit and great sense of humour, never failing to try to entertain people around him. We're happy to report that he succeeded most of the time!

The family would like to extend special appreciation to Dr. Yun (oncologist) and his staff at Richmond Cancer Care and to the Doctors, Nurses, Staff and volunteers at RGH Palliative.

A family celebration of life will be planned at a future date.
