John was an excellent person working towards his doctorate at Queens University where I was on staff as a lecturer and I had the opportunity of build the Queens Explosives Lab. He was a student of John Patterson, also deceased. A very intelligent , well loved professor - he will be sorely missed.

I was quire shocked to hear that John had passed away. I can't claim to be a close friend as I hadn't seen John since his family moved to the West Island of Montreal in the 1960s. Before that, I knew him and have fond memoriesof him at Sunday School and Scouts at St. Andrew's United Church in St. Laurent, another Montreal suburb. However, I have followed his career from afar since he went to Queen's, my Alma Mater, for a MSc a couple years after I graduated. I had hoped to reconnect with him but clearly, I waited too long. For that I am quite sad. My sincerest condolences to his family.

My most sincere condolences to Elaine and family.
I have very fond memories of John from my undergraduate days at Queen's University, both in his official role as an instructor, and even more so as a friend and mentor. It was clear that John was smart, passionate and caring.
In my final year I asked him to presented me with my Iron Ring at our Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer - it was a very special event and a great memory that I will always have of John.

Love to all Cam, Gail & Brendan.
Thinking of John stirs up very fond and warm memories. Especially of the times John and I, as kids, spent summer time together at Aunt Marion's cottage on Lake Scugog. We shared many fun times camping out in our Grandfather's old canvas prospector's tent ... telling jokes, reading comic books, relating ghost stories, shining our flashlights while placing an open hand over the light beam to make scary images on the tent ceiling and walls, and then falling asleep exhausted from the day's activities. Wonderful carefree times and memories! John, keep the flap of the tent door open and fresh batteries in the flashlights... we'll have a great reunion when I catch up with you.
