I am an old friend of Richards, we roomed together in the 90's. We lost contact and I decided to look him up. I had no idea he was deceased. This is very shocking to me, he was always so vital and alive. Richard was one of those rare people who could light up a room by walking into it. His ability to live in the moment and enjoy every second of it was enviable and worth copying by others. Living with him was one of the best times of my life and i will now cherish those memories. I always thought I would see him again. How I wish someone had been able to contact me in time to honour his memory. My sincerest condolences to his family, however belated.

My Uncle

I will miss my Uncle Richard. The last time I saw him was in August 2010. My mom, dad and I were in British Columbia for a vacation. When I was there I met his girlfriend Rebecca. She had a son named Xander. Uncle Richard was like a dad to him. I can remember when Uncle Richard would say “Hey bud” to me. I wish I could see him again.

Dear Family, My love and prayers go out to all of you. Richard was a very special person to me. For the seven years we were together was a adventure I will cherish forever. The love I felt during the entire friendship from Richard was so very special. He would light up the room each time he entered one. Richard was gifted in so many ways. His smile, knowledge and love I will keep in my heart forever.

Our sincere condolences on the sudden death of your dear son Richard. It is a tragedy beyond comprehension for a parent to lose a child. Unfortunately, you have now experienced such bereavement twice, and our hearts go out to you. We wish we could put our arms around you in a comforting embrace, but all we can do is to ask God to provide you with the strength to endure your loss.

Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers at this most difficult time. May your happy memories of loving times together with Richard provide you with some comfort as you face the days ahead.

We shall remember Richard when he visited us here in Windsor as a friendly personable young man, who loved his guitar.

I was so sad to hear of Richards passing. He had a beautiful soul and was not hard to look at either. He was smart as you know and there was no subject he could not talk on. I met him years ago through Sherry Tinerella; we had a lot of good times. Remember "What the heart has once owned and had it shall never lose". Richard will always be in our hearts.
Please take care of yourselves. God Bless You all.

A Facebook Entry:
When I was 19, I went to Victoria to Join English Language Program for French Canadians at the U-Vic. Richard's house was right in front of U-Vic which he shared with 2 other guys, we all used to hang around. So much fun, exciting days for young Japanese boy.....

My profile photo was taken on the way to Long Beach, took 7 hours to get there with my old Mustang'74 from Victoria where Richard and I used to live... all the things that happened in Canada have been huge influence to what I am now, and Richard is still the icon of my life in Canada.

The summer of '89 and the winter of '90, these are something I can't forget ever until I die. Still, means so much to me.

I'm typing this at office now, but as soon as I get home, I definitely play guitar and sing "Wish You Were Here" that he used to show me (that made me wanna learn playing guitar) and unite with memories with Richard.
