Balduin Ackermann December 20, 1927 - September 11, 2012 Born December 20, 1927 in Hamburg, Germany, Balduin passed away peacefully on September 11, 2012.
The Guest Book is expired.
Together with Felicitas, he is survived by their six children: Heidi, Christine, Kati (Lesli), Rose (Ian), Johann (Karen), and Regine (Jeff) and six grandchildren Louisa, Jeremiah, Sarah, Joshua, Basil, Natasha.
Balduin trained as a Master Gardener before arriving in Canada in 1952. After working on farms in Ontario, he came west to the Lower Mainland and worked at a variety of jobs including longshoreman. He strove to be a good Canadian while honouring his German homeland. He was very active in several German Clubs, served on the board of The German Church of the Cross and organized charter flights to Germany. His interest in journalism led him to establish, publish and work as Chief Editor of the Pazifische Rundschau (a German language newspaper) for decades. As a columnist, he was known for his writing under the title of 'Dies und Das'. At the same time, he broadcast German language radio programs for over 20 years. Along the way, he was proud to serve as a member of the B.C. Provincial Multicultural Advisory Committee.
He found joy in a good joke, a juicy steak, a lively polka and a rousing political discussion. In his later years, he enjoyed pruning fruit trees, hunting for mushrooms and finding a good deal at a liquidation store.
There is no service by his request. Cremation has taken place.
Our heartfelt thanks to the staff of the second floor of Dr. Al Hogg Pavilion in White Rock for making Balduin's last year a dignified and compassionate one.
