Beverley Rose Varnam, generous spirit, caring, kind, loving, compassionate, stubborn, cursing, food-loving, Amazon goddess, left us alone on this earth, the morning of September 11th, 2013. She was born a Lundstrum on September 29th, 1929. A proud first generation Canadian who had two daughters Loris and Liane, with her husband Sam McLaren (who died in 1963) and later in life inherited through her girls, two stand up guys as sons; Steve and Dave. She loved and was loved by her husband of 46 years Kenneth Douglas Varnam who misses her with a fierce devotion as do we all. Her grandchildren were all dogs, from sweet Irish wolfhounds to character mutts, she loved to share a walk with them and hoped to return to earth as a dog herself. She was charming and funny and loved to show her love through food, especially her home made jam. She and Ken shared so many great trips together with their daughters, she loved to read and watch the Sunday Morning Show and any British Masterpiece Mystery. She had an unreasonable attachment to Abba, K.D Lang, and Leonard Cohen. She had bustling summers full of flowers and family and pool parties. She was a stylish Dame her whole life, even later in life when she liberated herself from brassieres. Her soul walked this earth with grace, kindness and dignity. We loved her so. In lieu of flowers please send Puns to her knight-errant in her battle with cancer, Dr. Kenneth Evans at VGH. Memorial service September 27 at 1:29 pm, Unitarian Church (49th & Oak), Vancouver.
