Charles Newton 'Newt' Hopkins January 17, 1926 - February 15, 2013 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Newt Hopkins. He passed away peacefully at Lions Gate Hospital on February 15, 2013. Newt is survived by his loving wife Anne, his sister Reta Woodley (Kelowna), sisters-in-law Helen-Mary Hopkins (Kelowna) and Elizabeth Munn. Nieces and nephews Rod (Niki) Hopkins, Brian (Marie-Claude) Hopkins and M.L. (Trish) Hopkins, Scott Woodley, Richard (Brenda) Woodley, Janice (Bruce) Furiak, Cammy Nielsen, Robyn (Robert) Hall, Jonathan (Pamela) Munn, and Susan (Paul) Munn Milelli. Pre-deceased by his brother Norman Hopkins, and brothers-in-law Doug Woodley and Robert Munn. Newt was born in Vancouver, B.C., attended Kitsilano High School and graduated from UBC, Chemical Engineering, class of 1949. He was a long time employee of Hooker Chemicals/ Canadian Occidental, in engineering and management at facilities in North Vancouver, Nanaimo and Niagara Falls N.Y., retiring in July 1984. Newt was an avid golfer, and a former Vancouver Rotary Club Member who had years of enjoyment in his association with Rotary International Youth Exchange students. He was a participant in many groups including Parkgate Hearts in Motion Walking Group, Aqua Turtles, Probus Club, and Seniors Curling. The family would like to thank the staff of the 7th floor, Lions Gate Hospital, for the kindness and care Newt received. Heartfelt thanks to all the many friends that have given freely of their time over the past few weeks. A Celebration of his Life will be held at Seymour Golf and Country Club, 3723 Mount Seymour Parkway, N. Van. B.C., on Saturday March 2, 2013, between 2 & 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C., Rotary Club of Vancouver, Youth Exchange Program, or the charity of your choice.
