ROSS, Doris Adrienne (nee Bye)
June 11, 1917 - December12, 2012
Doris passed away peacefully at Richmond General Hospital following a brief illness. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Clarence (2010). She is survived by two sons, Jack (1945) and Bob (1949). Also grieving are Doris' grandsons Hamish and Samuel; two daughters-in- law, Willi and Susan; nephew Glen Robinson and his wife Vicki; as well as niece Patricia Lyndon and her husband, John. Doris was born and raised in Innisfail, Alta., and attended nursing school in Edmonton. She began nursing in Trail, B.C., where she met Clarence, a Trail native. They married in 1942 and served in southern Ontario for the duration of the Second World War. Returning to Trail, they starting their family, then moving to Port Alberni (1956) and subsequently to North Vancouver (1958). With her boys growing up, Doris attended UBC part-time (1960-66) before graduating with a B.A. in psychology, which might help explain how she seemed to stay a step ahead of everyone all the time. In retirement, Doris and Clarence were happiest together golfing or entertaining their many friends at their Bowen Island retreat. Always cheerful and fun-loving, Doris also had a lasting relationship with Rick Mark and Bryce Ferguson, who both grew up with her sons and regularly feasted on her chocolate-chip cookies. We all loved Doris and will miss here dearly.
