EMBREE, George Burton
August 11, 1914 - February 19, 2013
Burton (Papa), died peacefully and gracefully at 98 years of age at Bevan Lodge in Abbotsford, British Columbia. He is predeceased by siblings Graydon, Edna, Eileen, Darmel, and Jack. He is survived by his wife Marie of 74 years and siblings Rothwell and Verna. Burton will be lovingly remembered by his wife and children Shirley Vestad, Lorne Embree (Faye) and George Embree (Kaarina), as well as grandchildren - Janna Macaulay, Jarrod Vestad, Trevor Embree, Tasha Fedoruk, Tanya Kirk, Carly Nichol and Kyle Embree and great-grandchildren - Brianna, Isabella, Ava, Sophia, Georgia. Born into a Delta pioneer family, Burton worked on his family's dairy farm until he purchased his own farm on Ladner Trunk Road and 104th. In 1963, he cofounded B&L Excavating (Bel Construction Ltd.), with the very first all hydraulic track mounted backhoe and successfully worked on the front-line and behind the scenes in the Bel shop until he officially retired at 75 years of age. Burton was an avid outdoorsman - hunting, fishing, camping, hiking and motorbiking with grandchildren. He also spent considerable time travelling to mostly northern parts of the Province, exploring and dredging for gold. He spent two months on Ellesemere Island in the Arctic in 1979, the most northernly settlement in North America with RCMP friends. These adventures led to many hours of enjoyment with his children and grandchildren as he shared his stories, slides and gold treasures. Burton lived a very long, healthy and full life and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. A burial service will be held for immediate family. A Celebration of Life announcement will be provided at a later date.
