LEWIS, George Bryce
May 13, 1936 - October 25, 2013
George Bryce Lewis passed away peacefully on October 25, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather and friend. Dad was born in the family home in rural South Vancouver to the late Jean and David Lewis. He grew up surrounded by farms, forests, log booms and creeks, a wonderful place for an adventurous lad and his childhood friends. At an early age, to help his family, he delivered groceries-newspapers, sold Regal cards, door-to-door, and as a teen worked at the Pro Shop at Langara Golf Course. He became a "better than average golfer", played recreational lacrosse and loved to fish.
George's passion for tinkering and fixing things, as well as a keen interest in the new field of aviation, led to his joining Canadian Pacific Airlines in 1955. George's career spanned the evolution of the aviation industry from the prop to the jet. His knowledge and expertise had him working throughout Canada and the United States. In 1991 he retired after more than 35 years with the company as a respected Aircraft Maintenance Engineer. Upon retirement, Dad volunteered in the archives of Canadian Pacific to help preserve the history and memorabilia of the company and airline industry. This close group of retirees also continued to meet over the years to refurbish donated toys, bikes and small appliances to give to charity. He was also an active volunteer within his community, giving his time to local groups including Tsawwassen Soccer Association, Cub Scouts, Save Delta Hospital, Food on the Corner and Tsawwassen Lawn Bowling Club.
Dad met his life long friend and love, Margaret Anne, when they were children during weekly visits to his grandparent's home. George and Margaret married in 1958 and began creating a lifetime of memories. In 1967, they moved their young family to the small town of Tsawwassen, where they enjoyed many happy years of family gatherings and friendships. Favourite family holidays, included camping at Galliano and Grand Forks, trips to Maui, and touring in Great Britain. In retirement, George and Margaret continued to travel and cruise extensively with close friends and family throughout Canada, the US , the Pacific Rim, UK and Europe.
Dad will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Margaret; his children, Joanne (Rick), Doug (Deirdre) and David (Jeanette); and his adored grandchildren, Justin, Erik, Sydney, Allie, Grayson, Carter, and Bennett. Also missing him, will be the Charlesworth families, other relatives and his many long time friends.
Dad never went far without a treat for his companion Bella and other neighbourhood dogs. He always had a friendly smile and story to share with whomever he met in all his daily travels. He had a great sense of humour and a twinkle in his eye. Dad was a kind, generous man, with a big heart. We will miss him greatly.
The family would like to express profound thanks to Dr. Krawchuk, Dr. McQuaig, Dr. "Ben", and the doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists and staff of Delta Hospital for their care, compassion and support.
At George's request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, he would be pleased if you would make a donation to a charity.

I first met George in 1966 when I started with Canadian Pacific Airlines and knew him right through to his retirement. It was always a pleasure to talk with him. Sorry to hear of his passing. May he rest in peace. With sympathy,

Thinking of George .. so very sorry to hear this sad news - I worked alongside George from '86-91 and saw him & the "boys" frequently during retirement at Canadian picking up or bringing in toys. I admired his passion for charities I never saw him without a smile .. my condolences to the family and Bella
