HAMLYN, Grace Lillian
(Nee McLean)
May 5, 1918 - May 31, 2012
It is with great sadness that we announce the quiet passing of Grace at Little Mountain Manor Seniors Facility, Parksville B.C. on May 31, 2012. She is lovingly remembered by her sister Marian Gatenby, daughter Kerry, son George (Sharon), grandchildren Kim Wiebe, Jacob Macready (Karen), Misty Macready, Chrystal Sawry, Jason Sawry, and Michael Hamlyn. Great-grandchildren Carl, Eric, Harley, Anieka, Jeremiah, Joshua, and many nieces and nephews. Grace was born in Craik, Saskatchewan. After receiving her teaching certificate from "Normal School" she taught in Saskatchewan, Girvin (1940), Abernathy (1941), Kerrobert (1942), and Melville (1942 - 44), Manitoba, Flin Flon (1945), Vancouver and Victoria(1965 - 1983). In June of 1945 Grace joined the Canadian Women's Army Corp (CWAC) (1945- 1946). After the war she moved to Vancouver and worked as a secretary and clerk for various companies. On April 30, 1948, she married William (Bill) Hamlyn. From the early 1950's to early 1960's Grace worked at "The Bureau of Statistics" part time. In 1964, the family settled in Victoria where she remained till moving to Parksville in 2007. She was also a member of the Queen City Chapter No. 5 Order of The Eastern Star and The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 182. Grace was an avid bowler from 1959 to 1982.
