Gregory YU Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Dec. 22 to Dec. 23, 2017.
YU, Gregory Tat (D.M.D.)
January 2, 1947 - December 17, 2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Gregory Yu on December 17, 2017 at the age of 70. He is survived by his beloved wife Melanie, his son Jeffery, daughter Andrea, son-in-law Graham. Born in Hong Kong, Gregory immigrated to Vancouver in 1966. He graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry at U.B.C. in 1972. He was highly recognized not only in his profession but also in charitable organizations such as Lion's Club and S.U.C.C.E.S.S. He also excelled in his hobbies of tennis, wine collection, black belt in Tai Kwan Do and hunting. Gregory's love of life and famous sense of humour will live on in his family and many, many friends. We will miss him dearly. Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Ocean View Funeral Home Chapel, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada would be much appreciated.

Melanie,
I was sadden today to hear about your loss of Greg. It is during these times that we feel the most alone, but you are not alone; the love of your family and your many friends are there to carry to though it all. And I will keep you and your family in my prayers, and ask God to fill you guys with an overflowing pool of love, strength and hope.

Dear Melanie,
We are thinking of you and your family, Jeffrey, Andrea and Graham. We are deeply saddened to hear of Greg's passing. Greg was kind and caring. Warm memories of how he adored our daughter Caroline when she was little, always complimenting her and calling her this sweet nickname, Big Eyes, and how he meticulously performed oral surgery on our second daughter, Jaclyn, fill our hearts. We are so thankful that Greg was in our lives.
With our deepest sympathy,
Daphne & Ray

Melanie, Jeff, Andrea and Graham, Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. We have so many good memories of Greg to recount. On and off the tennis court, on cruises, at wine dinners, on our annual hunting trip, at birthdays and anniversaries filled with laughter. Selling fundraising tickets for some charity or another was your badge of your sense of community spirit to help others. As determined on the last day of one of our hunts so you were in life. After that last shot your smile endured forever and that is how we will remember you always.

Goodbye Gregory,

You have been my inspiration since UBC Fort Camp. I will not forget how sharp you looked in your red TR4, and how well you played tennis in Western Indoors. You are such a great guy, and a good friend to have.
