FILIPPELLI, Guiseppe Lorenzo (Flip)
July 4, 1923 - August 1, 2012
Passed away peacefully on August 1, 2012 in Vancouver at the age of 89. Predeceased by son Ken and wife Lillian, he will be sadly missed by his son Lorne (Gwen), daughter Sandra, granddaughters Dianna and Jocelyn (Chris), his partner June Lort, her children Andrea Bayly (Stephen, Matthew, Nancy), Tony Lort (Dragana, Milan, Charlie, Allison), and Barbara Genner (Cecily, Molly, Andrew). Flip worked for Cominco for forty years. He was an elder of his hometown Trail, a former Jaycees national president, member of the FINA Technical Committee for Competitive Swimming, Director of Swimming for the Americas, the Canadian and British Columbia Amateur Swimming Associations, and an architect and close confidant of the Pacific Dolphins and Pointe Claire Aquatic Clubs. He was a devoted friend to the Pacific Assistance Dogs Society stamp group and to his Trail high school classmates. Adored by his family and friends, Flip touched everyone with his love, commitment, insight, and wry humour. Funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 13, 2012 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 1430 West 38th Avenue, Father Horgan celebrant. In lieu of flowers, donations gratefully acknowledged to the Canadian Cancer Society.
