BARENDREGT _ Hendrik "Henk" Johan Died peacefully on April 5, 2006, at the age of 82 after a short, sudden illness. At his bedside was his devoted daughter Lynda, his former wife Lize and their beloved dog Hayley, all of Ladner, BC. Henk is predeceased by his son Rob and survived by his son Mario and wife Mona of Mission, BC. Born in Djakarta Indonesia on October 13, 1923, Henk, Lize and Mario immigrated from Holland to BC in the early 50's. For many years Henk worked as an accountant for the BC Ferries in Victoria, Powell River and Langdale. He later joined the SMT Bus Lines in Sechelt BC and finally ended his career in the Life Insurance field. His love for adventure took him to Perth, Western Australia for two wonderful years. Among his many hobbies were hiking, stamp collecting, carpentry, ships and boat building. He was the president of the World Ship Society for many years and involved in many organizations including Scouts. Henk had a love for people, and entertained many with his interesting stories. A gift for writing and a passion for reading, were a great solace after being stricken with Parkinson's disease later in life. Henk lived happily at the Morgan Place Care Facility for nearly 5 years. One of the first residents ... he will be very sadly missed. A great comfort to him was the knowledge that he would one day be joining his son Rob. We find peace in knowing that they are now together. There will be a Memorial Reception, Saturday, April 15, at 2 pm at the Delta Funeral Home in Ladner, 5329 Ladner Trunk Road. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Parkinson's Disease BC Association, would be greatly appreciated.
