My prayers and consolations go to Kathleen, Hugh, Charles and Dorothy on the death of your husband and father.
Dr. Woodhouse was one of my theology professors at the University of King's College in Halifax in the early 1960's, before his appointment as Regius Professor of Divinity at Trinity College in Dublin. It was while he was there that I contacted him, asking for his help in obtaining a part time appointment to a parish in the Church of Ireland, as part of the benefit to be realized through the Morris Scholarship. He arranged for me to work in St. Donard's Parish in Belfast, where he had served his first curacy - and met Kathleen. History repeated itself, as while there I met my future wife, Maureen Cuddy, whose family were very active members of St. Donard's. If it had not been for the help of Dr. Woodhouse, Maureen and I would have never met nor shared the adventures of more than 44 years of married life (and still counting)!
It is with these memories and appreciations of the teaching, the friendship and the generosity of Hugh Frederic Woodhouse that I give thanks to God for his life and Christian faithfulness. As is engraved on the tombstone of my own father, "A long life, well lived, is a gift to the world".
May you know God's sustaining grace and peace at the passing of your beloved husband and father into that larger life in the nearer presence of God.
