RUDKIN, Ian
January 25, 1948 - October 25, 2012
After a brief illness, Ian passed away in the afternoon of October 25, 2012 at the Purdy Pavillion of UBC Hospital, Vancouver, BC. Predeceased by his parents, Ian leaves behind his son Sean, who now lives in Ontario, and five cousins. Ian grew up in Nanaimo, graduating from Nanaimo District Secondary School in 1966. Ian was a musician who played both the violin and piano and who early on developed a love of English literature. He went on to UBC to earn a BA in Honours English. After graduation, Ian frequently played the piano at the Naam Restaurant in Vancouver and played his violin with various groups including the Vancouver Philharmonic. At the same time he pursued his love of literature, and in 1974, began to self-publish chapbooks of his poetry under the impress of Brio Books. His books are held in the Special Collections of a number of university libraries in Canada and other countries. Ian will be missed by friends who appreciated his wit and wisdom. A gathering will be held for those who wish to honour Ian's memory at the restaurant Death by Chocolate, 1598 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC V6J 5K9 on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at 1:30 p.m.
