De JONGE, Jacob (Jaap)
October 29, 1916 - December 25, 2012
Peacefully, at the Madison Care Centre in Coquitlam on December 25, 2012 at the age of 96. Beloved husband since 1949 of Martha (Mar) Baligje de Jonge. Predeceased be his parents, Job de Jonge and Pleuntje de Jonge (nee Brand) of the Netherlands, and by his six brothers, Iman, Constand, Dirk, Hendrik, Jan and Gijsbertus and three sisters, Cornelia, Teuntje and Elizabeth. Jacob and Martha left their native Holland in 1952, settling in Hamilton, Ontario where Jacob worked as a skilled typesetter for the Hamilton Spectator, while pursuing his passion - the study of philosophy, for which he earned Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degrees. Jacob and Martha moved to Vancouver in 1971 where Jacob began a second career teaching philosophy for many years at Douglas and Kwantlen colleges. He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews and friends in Canada, the Netherlands and South Africa.
