John GREEN Obituary
Journalist, researcher, and community leader, John Willison Green passed away May 28, 2016 in Chilliwack, at age 89. Predeceased by his beloved wife June, brother Lewis, and one grandson, he is survived by children Marian (John), Margaret (Ken), Jim, Kathryn (Ray), and Raymond (Louise), thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Raised in Vancouver, John loved building and racing sailboats. A graduate of UBC, he received his M.A. in Journalism from Columbia University in New York at age 20. He met June while in the Navy, and they married in 1948, living in Toronto, Vancouver, and Victoria, before moving to the Agassiz-Harrison area, where they raised their children and published the local newspaper for many years. His editorial writing was recognized with national awards. John volunteered for many community activities, including the Chamber of Commerce, Senior Citizens Housing, Harrison Hot Springs Fire Department, Boy Scouts, Search and Rescue, the Lions Club and the Historical Society. He served several years on the Harrison municipal council, including two as mayor. He was responsible for the construction of the Harrison lakefront beach, where he spearheaded the World Championship Sand Sculpture Competition for many years. He was also active in politics at the provincial level. His lobbying efforts preserved the Kilby General Store at Harrison Mills as a dedicated heritage site. John was well known as a serious investigator and best selling author on the topic of the Sasquatch. In 2000, John was recognized as B.C. Senior of the Year, and more recently he was honoured at several public gatherings for his community service, research work and writing. A private family celebration of his life will be held. Shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of John Green. I was looking forward to meeting him, but recently veered away to attend to the ill health of my mother, who took ill to her death bed just before John passed away.I would like to say that I admire John's integrity and work ethic, his passion and dedication to the topic of Sasquatch. His work served as the basis for the work of many others who followed. What a loss but what a well-lived life.

My sympathy to John's family. I will always remember him fondly. Most of all I recall his generosity: to the community as he and June accepted a life of long hours and modest income to produce one of the finest small town newspapers in the country, to the boy scouts of Agassiz-Harrison as the best scout leader a kid could hope for and to me personally as he and June welcomed me at their table and indulged a callow youth in debates on many topics punctuated by the gentle application of John's wry wit.

John was always willing to assist me with anything he could. I have several emails from him where his advise was primarily in tune with my perspective, so he always made me feel like he was my Big Brother in the Sasquatch Research arena. His writings should be required study for all who decide to get involved with Sasquatch studies, and there will never be another author in this topic field that will compare to him. He will remain, forever, the "King of Sasquatch Research".

Uncle John was passionate about many things, especially sasquatches and prostate cancer treatment. After Aunt June died, he seemed less interested in living but still managed to go parasailing in Mexico with his daughter Kathryn. My running friends really enjoyed hearing about the history of the Fraser Valley when he joined us for dinner before the Abbotsford marathon in 2013. He was a true character and patriarch! I met John in 2011 at a tribute event for him in Harrison Hot Springs. He was a true gentleman, and his family was very accommodating and friendly. His work with the Sasquatch question was a great inspiration to me and others, and he had a lot of fans and friends. I consider him a friend and mentor, and to quote Morgan Freeman in The Shawshank Redemption, I guess I just miss my friend. May your memory be eternal John, and thank you.

My condolences to the Green Family.I once wrote to Mr Green to thank him for his years of work and his outstanding research which is quite astonishing still.I wrote the following: "I work for The National Parks and Wildlife Service here in Australia and I feel your work parallels ours in working towards conservation and preservation of our fragile ecosystems. As a young man I remember being acutely inspired after seeing a film of yourself, Robert Morgan and Rene Dahinden discussing how to enact legislation for the protection of species, in your case Sasquatch. I distinctly remember being moved by your simple, direct statement of how conservation is a direct concern for humankind." So thanks Mr Green for your effort and inspiration.

I read his book many times, admired him from a distance ~ he certainly came across as a wonderful man. Mr. Green accomplished more in his lifetime than most of us have ever DREAMED! His family must be extremely proud of this man.

John inspired my work in 1961, and kindly wrote me letters in reply to my youthful research and fieldwork at the beginning. Without John's encouragement, there would be no International Cryptozoology Museum. His donations were not money, but something more important - his heart and passion for the pursuit. I will be forever grateful and indebted to John for his work in saving and preserving the much loved Kilby General Store Historic Site for future generations to enjoy. I knew John for most of my life and worked with him at Kilby Historic Site as well as on many community projects. Rest in Peace John.

My deepest condolences to the Green family.
John was a close friend of the Jones family in Agassiz. Often I would hear of stories of the early days when us children were young, sasquatch's, politics and poetry. In recent years, I had time with both June and John, listening and admiring their wisdom and grace. Reminding myself how blessed to have had them in our lives.
I see them now together as they always should be, walking hand in hand enjoying the company of each other.
