It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved and courageous woman. Josie Boychuk died at Peace Arch Hospital in Surrey, British Columbia on November 26, 2012 at the age of 86. Born in Fraserwood, Manitoba, she married Peter Boychuk of Port Arthur, Ontario and raised two children, Gary and Patricia. An active golf enthusiast, who enjoyed many winter months in Tucson, Arizona, Josie's creative talents were demonstrated in her beautiful quilting and applique needlework and in her newly acquired love of oil painting. Josie is survived by her husband of sixty-six years, Peter, children Gary (Natalie) and Patricia (Gary) Johnson, granddaughters Thirza (Francois) Morissette, Penny and Elizabeth, great-grandchildren Sacha and Luca, sisters Eleanor Borodey and Jean Barr, sisters-in-law Joan Hrankowski, Anne Lakaschus, Mary (Nestor) Chehowy and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Predeceased by parents Pauline and Walter, brothers Stanley, Frank, sister Mary, brothers-in-law John Kushnier, Mike Borodey, Robert Barr, Sr., and sister-in-law Stella (Hrankowski) and nephew, William Kushnier. For their compassionate care during this difficult time the family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to the doctors and nurses at Peace Arch Hospital. A funeral mass in celebration of Josie Boychuk will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2250 150th Street, Surrey, BC on Monday, December 3, 2012 at 1 p.m. Interment to follow in Garden of Gethsemani Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Josie's memory are appreciated and may be made to the charity of your choice.
