March 1988 - July 2012
Our beautiful, dear Rachel passed away on July 18, ending her life long battle against the effects of Cystic Fibrosis (CF). Rachel is lovingly remembered by her father Brian, mother Joan (nee Gelette), adoring sister Nicole, Gramma Rose and devoted boyfriend Chris Roach; as well as many family and friends and her Christmas puppy Morgan. Rachel was full of life; funny and fun loving, fiercely determined, compassionate and very loving. She radiated spark, positive energy and enthusiasm. It seemed that she was everyone's best friend, and someone that people felt comfortable confiding in. In spite of her illness, she was never one to complain and was always more interested in how others were doing than in speaking of her own challenges. She loved the ocean, and two of her favorite places were Maui and Thormanby Island. Rachel was an excellent student, and attended Lord Kitchener Elementary and Point Grey Mini School for high school. She attended UBC, studying Nutrition and Psychology, with an ambition to be a counselor. One of her passions was music, and she loved to sing. She was an enthusiastic participant in many school musicals and in a musical theatre group. Rachel watched every Disney movie, and took great delight in quoting a line from one of those movies and having people guess which movie it was from. Her favorite color was pink. She enjoyed walks on the beach, family time and traditions. She was very outgoing and had hundreds of friends. She was a loving daughter and a special little sister. Being with friends and family were among her greatest pleasures. Rachel was very well organized, and that served her well as she coped with CF. She diligently followed her daily regimen of pills, inhaled medications and therapy. At the same time, she was determined to not let CF define who she was. She lived more in her 24 years than many people do in much longer lives. When she met someone, she made a connection. She lived life with passion and with love. She was an amazing young woman who showed so much courage and tenacity. She will forever be an inspiration to many who have met her. Rest well sweet Rachel. We miss you so much, and you will be forever in our hearts. We will never forget that dazzling smile and those beautiful green eyes. The family would like to thank all of those who helped to take such good care of Rachel during her 24 years. In memory of Rachel, donations can be made to Cystic Fibrosis Canada, Vancouver/ Lower Mainland branch or to the St. Paul's Hospital Foundation, for use in the ICU. Rachel's family also request that you consider registering as an organ donor. A celebration of Rachel's life will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at the Hellenic Community Center, 4500 Arbutus Street, Vancouver, commencing at 2:00 p.m.
