Richard PERCY Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Jan. 25 to Jan. 26, 2017.
PERCY, Richard Charles William (Rick)
We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Rick, the precious husband of Ruth, at Royal Columbian Hospital on January 22, 2017. Rick will also be remembered by his wonderful cousins in Yorkshire, the U.S., Australia and B.C., as well as many dear nieces and nephews and great- nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Helen Olson. Rick was born in Bradford, Yorkshire and arrived in Canada in time to start grade 3 at Tecumseh school, where, in grade 7, he was invited to join the Macmillan Club (the forerunner to Reach For the Top). Rick tended to be serious and studious and was a keen and knowledgeable historian. He was a Board Member of several museums as well as Curator of the Simon Fraser University Museum from 1972 to 1990. In retirement, he derived great enjoyment from the Historians Group and Centennial Stamp Club. Rick had a lifelong interest in classic cars, particularly Packards on which he was an authority, and was a founding member and first President of the Vintage Car Club of Canada. Rick had a kind and caring heart and was a generous supporter of many charities. He loved Nature and was known to give a safe haven to animals in need. Rick also found pleasure in travelling, classical music, his obsolete parts business and daily coffee excursions. A private family service will be held at a later date.

Dear Auntie Ruth,
We are thinking of you at this very sad time and will miss Uncle Rick dearly. Growing up with you both was always fun because you made us feel special.
I loved how he shared his passion for antique cars with me and we would always laugh about people who like to restore "K"lassic cars. I know his inspiration made me a better person.
Love,
David, Christina and boys
