January 1, 1937 - June 30, 2012
With sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Ruth, in her daughter's arms, at the Laurel Place Hospice, Surrey, British Columbia. Our dedicated medical staff in Surrey had enabled Ruth to survive a previous struggle with cancer, but she lost her final battle with the disease in June. Ruth was born in Cloverdale BC on January 1, 1937, in a beautiful tar papered "mansion". In 1955 Ruth met and married Red (Les) MacDonald and later on, with two children in tow, spent many years travelling in Canada and overseas on numerous pipeline projects with Red. In 1967 they finally set up home base in Surrey, BC, where Red still resides. In the old days there were many good times at "Red & Ruth's Bar" when visiting pipeliners would drop in to enjoy a cold one, a barbecued steak, and the hospitality of Ruth and Red. Christmas at "The MacDonalds" was always a joyous time and the welcome mat graced the front step while the sound of Country Music drifted out to greet you. Ruth loved to sing along with some of the western music but even with the dubious help of one or two brothers, never managed to get the nod from Nashville, although she may have if they had tasted her turkey dinner. Ruth was predeceased many years ago by her beloved sister Joyce and in recent years by her elder brother Robert, whose wife survives him. Left to lovingly remember Ruth are, husband Red, daughter Maureen Brown, Grandchildren Landon and Madison Brown, Son Michael with partner Elena and daughter Tanya, Ruth's brothers Ronald, Douglas, Gary, William and their surviving spouses, many nieces and nephews, and of course Ruth's many friends. Donations in Ruth's memory to any cancer foundation would be welcomed.
