Samuel TAVENDER Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Dec. 7, 2013.
TAVENDER, Samuel (Sam) Stewart James
June 24, 1987 – November 19, 2013
He was a very gentle soul with much kindness and love to share. He loved music and singing and was often heard late into the night singing and playing his bass guitar. He had recently discovered that meditation gave him a great deal of peace and would take comfort in this practice for hours at a time. He is survived by his mother Jacqueline, his brother Robin and his father Carl. Memorial to be held at Christ's Church Cathedral at 4 pm, Tuesday December 10, 2013.

It's been almost a year, and Sam has been on my mind a lot lately. I don't think I'll ever be able to wrap my head around what happened. I pray for Sam's family and all those who cared for him to continue to heal and find peace with the loss of Sam.

I've had some time to think about what I wanted to say here, since my initial post was just looking for information on what exactly happened. Sam was my best friend in the world, my mentor. When I lost my brother and was going down the drain, he is the person who pulled me out and saved me from myself. I have never and will never in my life meet somebody as intelligent and genuinely kind again. I keep finding myself going to message or call him and then realizing I no longer have the privileged to do so. I'll never say goodbye because the lessons you've taught me will stay with me until I join you in the afterlife. I'll see you on the other side whenever I get there, Sam. Until then you know I'll hold you down.

Sam and I would talk on skype for hours about the most meaningless stuff. He was full of insight and had a different perspective on life. We stopped talking a while ago but I will remember him forever.

Same, you were of a unique breed. One of the rare good ones. It's sad to know you're gone from this world, and hard to believe. But wherever you are now, I know you're going to make 'em laugh, and cry, and think, just as you did during your time with us. May your spirit go in peace, friend.

And in this moment, I wish to extend my condolences to Sam's family for their loss. May you all know peace and find strength in how much Sam meant to all of us.

Sam was an amazing person. He made me want to learn about myself and actually try to improve myself. He was always there when I needed support or just someone to talk through an issue I was having. Countless nights we stayed up on Skype by ourselves or with other friends and no one ever wanted the conversation to end. He always had great advice on any project I was working on. His inspiration and guidance helped me keep my passion alive. He inspired me to keep questioning and learning about everything. He helped me to learn about myself and figure out what love is. I know I wouldn't be where I am today without Sam. I'm sorry we never got a chance to meet in person dear friend. We weren't blood related but he was truly my brother. Rest in peace, dear friend.

Gonna miss you, buddy. Already did. You were probably one of the most unique people I knew, and I had a lot of good times talking with you.

This is a real shame, NME was a great guy and will be missed. I still remember when he setup the Tornado Vasectomy project and coordinated the whole deal. Good times and sad deal...

Sam was a wonderful friend. He was very kind and supportive to all of us. I'll miss his gentle presence in our group Skype calls, the mentoring conversations he would have with me and the crazy fun times me and Curt had playing Killing Floor together with him.

Sam, you were a great friend and I will miss you so much. I'm glad I had the chance to know you as a friend.

Made a unique impression from the very first time we spoke. Thought-provoking discussions were never in short supply with him around, and we always had a good time. He was every definition of a good friend.

Sam was a great friend to me, I have nothing but respect for man. We were a lot a like when it came to certain things. A lot of great late night conversations. He was not just a friend he was also a teacher, Sam got me to open my mind and got to see things in a new light. I'm gonna miss Sam deeply.

Sam was a friend, when I didn't value friends enough. He was a mentor, when I didn't accept authority. I have always deeply respected his views and his unique personality. It always felt like he was trying to protect all of us from evil. Sam helped and empathized whenever he could. I was hoping to one day travel to Canada. I'll really miss him.

Sam was always searching for understanding -- of other people and himself. He wanted to bring it all into line so he could help the people around him. We parted ways a long time ago, but I've always loved him like a brother.

I hope he found a modicum of peace before his consciousness joined the background noise of the universe, and that his influence might help random vibrations turn to harmony.

Close friend of Sam's. Could anybody tell me the cause of death or what happened? I just woke up to this news and I am dumbfounded. Sam meant a lot to me and our group of friends, any details I could bring back to them would be appreciated. I am so sorry for your loss, Sam was the best friend I'll ever have.

Sam was incredibly intelligent and interested in some very philosophical ideals. He always kept me thinking and laughing.

The tragedy here is that Sam made such an impact on so many lives, which he likely never realised - and speaking as one of many whose life he touched; the loss of his voice impoverishes us.
We who knew him from the internet communities he was most vocal in, share some of the grief of his family, and I personally pray that you know healing and wholeness in the wake of this deprivation.

Every pebble cast into the sea, though lost from all sight; sends ripples round the world.

We miss him.
