FAGERLUND, Ulf (Uffe) Henrik Mathias
Born in Lovisa, Finland on March 16, 1925. Passed away at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver, BC, Canada on September 17, 2013 following a brief illness. Married Anita Elizabeth Erika Törn in Abo (Turku), Finland on July 29, 1950. Dad and Morfar/Farfar to Katherine (Paul Warwick) and daughter Rachel; Anne Davis (Paul) and their children Erika MacKay (Kevin), Karl, and Ava (fiancé Craig O'Connell); Marie Lucas and her daughters Jamie (Stuart Jergens) plus great-grandchild Sean, and Caraline; John (Yvonne), his daughters Allecia and Brooke, and their daughter Melody; Paul (Stella) and their sons Aaron, Stephen and Tor. Predeceased by brother Bo (Finland 2011). Studied at Abo Academy, earning a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1951 (accepted as a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering at UBC in 1952). Immigrated to Canada in October 1951, arriving in Vancouver BC in November. Had a long and fulfilling career at Fisheries Research Board of Canada from 1952 until 1987. Dedication to his heritage and love of music kept him active in the Canadian Friends of Finland and the Runeberg Chorus during retirement. Dad was a devoted and loved husband and father, a curious and philosophical thinker, and a good man. We'll miss him hugely. The family gathered to lay his ashes in North Vancouver Cemetery on September 22, 2013. We invite those who wish to remember and celebrate Dad to join us at the Scandinavian Centre, 6540 Thomas Street, Burnaby, B.C. on October 20, 2013 from 2 to 5 PM.
