Norm, as he was known by family and friends; Papa, as he was affectionately addressed by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, slipped peacefully into the presence of the Lord June 5, 2012 at Royal Columbian Hospital. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Norm was the third of six brothers and sisters. After working during his teenage years at the family furniture shop, Norm joined Trans Canada Air Lines, now Air Canada at 18 years of age, embarking on a career that would span 39 years, including time at Dorval Airport as Ramp Services Manager and in Vancouver, where he was involved in ramp operations and scheduling. After less than a year of retirement, Norm launched on a second career as Dealer/ Owner of two different Home Hardware Stores, in Tsawwassen and White Rock, spanning another 25 years. Norm was active at South Delta Baptist Church during the 35 years his family has lived in the Tsawwassen area. Norm is survived by Violet, his loving wife of 63 years, daughter Valerie Gibson (Bill), daughter-in-law Melanie Batten, grandchildren Richard Batten (Anne), Timothy Gibson (Miriam), Joel Gibson (Shannon), Kara Sinclair (Jon) and Kristianne Gibson and great- grandchildren Riley Batten and Liam and Kenzie Gibson, brother Ralph Batten and sister Myrtle Turner. Norm is predeceased by his beloved son Ron, brother Gordon, sisters Audrey and Shirley. Visitation and Viewing will take place on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Delta Funeral Home, 5329 Ladner Trunk Road, Ladner, BC. Burial will take place on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Boundary Bay Cemetery, Tsawwassen, BC, followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. at South Delta Baptist Church, 1988, 56th Street, Tsawwassen, BC, with a reception to follow.In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Share Program at South Delta Baptist Church.
