Keith Campbell Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Mar. 24 to Mar. 25, 2012.
CAMPBELL, Keith Wilson (Casey)
May 4, 1921 - March 17, 2012
Casey dearly loved and was proud of his family: his loving wife, Liz and his step son, Richard Scott (Masami), his children: Angus (Diane), Judy (Kim Davies), Mary Jo (Pat Heale and Cathy, his grandchildren: Robin Clegg (Brent), Colin Campbell (Jessica Norman), Wendy Reading (Jesse), Jessica and Morgan Davies, Michael, Jamie and Mary Heale. He is also survived by his childrens' mother, Mary Campbell of Winnipeg, and two (nearly three) great-grandchildren. Keith attended Ravenscourt in Winnipeg, where he made special, life-long friends. He graduated from Queen's University and then became a Chartered Accountant. After years of working and serving the community in Winnipeg, he came to Vancouver in 1975 and retired here as a corporate financial executive in 1986. Among his many pastimes, he particularly loved racing sailboats and enjoyed great success. From a Prairie sailor he adapted well to the ocean and became a successful member of the west coast sailing community. So many of us, family and crew, novice and seasoned sailors alike, share good memories of racing and cruising aboard 'Seven' with Casey. He contributed to the sport in many ways and was particularly proud of being a founding member of the ZigZag Yacht Club in Clearwater Bay, his role in the creation of the harbour and facilities for the Gimli Yacht Club as Chair of the 1967 Pan Am Games sailing event, and being an Honorary Life Member of the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. For his efforts at the 1967 Pan Am Games, he was awarded the Canadian Centennial Medal of Honour. The family is grateful for the dignity and comfort provided by Emilia Manalasay and Saabnam Khan and the staff on Meadow Lane at Brock Fahrni. Thanks, also, to Dr. Peter House, Casey's doctor for over 30 years, and to his constant visitors, Robert (Bob) Kerr, Marilyn Shore, Jim Brown and many more. Special thanks to Paul Mcrae. A celebration of Casey's life will be held on Saturday, March 31, from 11:15 am to 2:30 pm at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, 3811 Point Grey Rd., Vancouver, BC. If wished, you may make a contribution to the Corinthian Fund at the RVYC (3811 Point Grey Road, V6K 1B3) in memory of Casey. This fund assists many local sailors to compete in national and international regattas. CASEY - It was fun knowing such a gentleman, stubborn though you were!

Thanks for being my father's best friend and confidant. We are also grateful for the many kindnesses to our family over the years. Our deepest condolences to all who join in mourning your passing.

God bless Casey. I greatly enjoyed our consulting sessions each of which started with the advice "put the boat up for sale" Casey and Liz were and are an example of lives lived amid shared.
