August 26, 1928 - July 16, 2014
It is with deep sadness that the family of Alice Barber announces her passing in the early hours of July 16, 2014 at the age of 85. Born and raised in Redfield, SK, Alice moved to BC as a young woman seeking the many new opportunities that BC had to offer. After spending time in the Fraser Valley, Alice settled in the Lower Mainland where she met Harry, whom she married in 1961. They were together for almost 50 years, raising two children, Brian and Gary, initially in Vancouver and from 1974 onward in the community of Tsawwassen. Over the course of the next number of years, Alice delighted in entertaining family and friends, gardening every spring and summer, enjoying walks in the evening and attending garage sales on Saturday mornings. She was also an avid reader, loved a challenging crossword puzzle and was a superb cook. Listening to music, especially country and western, playing her guitar and joining in on a sing along at family gatherings was also a favourite pastime of hers. Alice was a kind, gentle soul who possessed a truly generous giving spirit. We will dearly miss her charitable nature, caring personality and devotion to her family. Alice is predeceased by her parents, Nicholas and Pauline Sadowsky, husband Harry, and siblings Walter, Marvin, Paulette and Helen. Alice is survived by her sons Brian (Cathy), and Gary; her grandchildren Sarah, Megan, Sophie and Nicholas; siblings Ben, Syd, Sophie, Nicholas, and Stefanie, as well as many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on July 26, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Delta Funeral Home located at 5329 Ladner Trunk Road in Ladner.
