Patrick CLARIDGE Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Mar. 17, 2012.
CLARIDGE, Patrick "Pat" S.
July 12, 1938 - March 8, 2012
A local Vancouver lad, perhaps best known for his pro-football years with the winning 60s BC Lions, didn't win over his fight with Dementia/Alzheimer. Despite Pat's favourite Churchill quote, "Never, never, never give up!" after 4 years in assisted care passed away pain-free in Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, BC on March 8, 2012. Pat is sent a fond farewell from his loving wife, Louise; his brothers, Bill, Peter, Richard and families; the Hanna Family; and best friend, Jim Carphin. He is predeceased by his brother, Bruce, who opened the doors to the University of Washington and the Lions. After his award winning football career Pat became a successful businessman in the Investment Field after which he and Louise retired to their beloved Hornby Island in '97. Pat enjoyed golf but loved rugby. He also, spent many years supporting and fundraising for the Vancouver Police Pipe Band. It was Pat's wish for his family, friends, old football, rugby and cop buddies to hoist a glass and bid adieu!
Love Louise

Dear Louise;
I'm so sorry to hear of Pat's passing. He was truly one of a kind, and I have very fond memories of our weekend with the two of you at your house on Hornby Island, back in the day.

Dear Louise,

I knew Pat from business in Vancouver. I am president of the Churchill Society of British Columbia and particularly appreciated the Churchill quote in the obituary. Winston Churchil provided great inspiration for all of us who have faced significant challenges in our lives. I am delighted that Pat shared that inspiration.

Kindest regards,
Christopher Hebb.

Pat left us too soon. I especially remember RP&B nights at the Duff and other locations and other great times with brothers Bill and Bruce, George Forster, Ray Ross, Ron Stuart, Don Vassos, a bunch of old lions and too many others to list here; Pat's maiden voyage to Hill Island on M/V Earlmar; and especially the steadfast friendship to Pat of Jim. Louise, we only met briefly but I was impressed - my good buddy was hooked! My deepest condolences to everyone. It seems appropriate to be sending this message on St Patrick's Day. Our Patrick was a great Irishman!

Sincerely,
Tom Sharp
