UHRICH, Philip C. M.D.C.M (McGill '66)
July 19, 1941 ~ April 9, 2012
As the eagle soars beyond our windows, we are reminded of Phil's strength and singleness of purpose. As the elusive owl gazes in stillness from his nearby forest perch, we sense Phil's wisdom and independence. In the silent readiness of his beloved veggie garden, we taste the memory of the sweetness of corn, asparagus, and all of the gastronomic pleasures shared with family and friends. Phil's passion for discovery unfolded in the joy he took experiencing the glories of literature, classical music and Leonard Cohen's journey towards serenity. Along with this was the love of sun, sand and surf, traveling to the exotic and the familiar, ritual hikes to the Rockies, national parks, Nepal and cycling with his wife Carolyn through most of their life together. Phil and Carolyn savoured their frequent visits to Carolyn's birthplace, Australia, especially in the company of his closest buddies: sons Bill (Jill, Liam and Sebastian), Karl and Ted (Alexa, Dylan, and Carolyn). Radiology was Phil's professional passion and he pursued it with unflagging energy, curiosity and innovation. Phil never missed a day of work due to illness and was extremely dedicated to his career. A celebration of life will be held at a future date. The family is grateful for the superb care of Dr. Paul Sugar, Catherine Jarvis RN, and Dr. Kim Chi of the B.C. Cancer Agency. They are an inspiration to their profession.
