Born in Alston, Jamaica, Astley graduated from Mico College for teachers and then moved to Winnipeg in 1963 where he earned a BSc in Chemistry, a MSc in Biochemistry and a D.M.D.
In 1979, he moved to Vancouver where he set up his dental practice. He loved practicing dentistry, and valued and cared for both his patients and staff.
Astley was a charter member of the Burnaby Deer Lake Rotary club and was very active in Rotary for a number of years.
He loved Jamaica and was actively involved in organizations and fundraising events for most of his life. From 1997-2008, Astley served as the Honorary Consul General for Jamaica, always giving of himself generously in everything he undertook.
His most recent passion was for his hcPRP discoveries and the healing this method brought to patients in both dentistry and medicine.
A Celebration of Astley's Life will be held on Sunday June 3rd, 2012 at 1pm at the University Golf Club, 5185 University Blvd., Vancouver.
