November 1, 1922 - June 22, 2012 Bettie passed away peacefully at Eagle Ridge Hospital on June 22, 2012, surrounded by her family and showered with their love and affection. Bettie could not live without the love of her life, Wally, her husband of 68 years who passed away just four months ago. Bettie was known for her generous, caring and fun loving qualities. She was the sweetest mom and best gramma ever! She loved playing cards and "silly" games with the grandkids and was especially fond of taking them for weekend getaways to Birch Bay and later, the Glen. Even when she was sick, she would light up when her grandkids were around. Although Bettie was the youngest of 14 and proud of it, she worked hard to make her home the hub for all family events. From Christmas dinners to baby showers to family reunions, Bettie was the glue that kept our large extended family bonded together. Born in Vancouver, Bettie loved to reminisce about her childhood in Kitsilano; from how she slept on the front deck of the house, kept warm by hot bricks wrapped in newspapers, to spending summers swimming, sailing and sunning at Kits Beach. Bettie's first job was at Woodward's and later she worked for Sears in Customer Service - a job she loved because she loved people! One of Bettie's many sayings was, "my mother taught me to never tell a lie" and then with a wink she would add, "sometimes little fibs are ok." It's no lie that Bettie has left an abundance of love in our hearts. Survived by daughters Wanda (Bob), Barbara (Glen), Grandchildren David (Lindsay), Shannon (Brendan), Kevin (Alicia), Kyla (Tyler) and great-grandchildren Fraser, Emma & June. Also, many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Bettie's life will take place on Sunday, July 8, from 2pm - 4pm, at Lochdale Hall, 490 Sperling Ave, Burnaby.
