John Desmond O'Gorman Devlin, MD 1924 - 2012 At home, with his family by his side, Desmond passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 6th 2012, aged 88, following a courageous battle with vascular dementia. Raised in Fort William, Ontario, and predeceased by his sister Audrey and brother Ben, Des graduated from the University of Manitoba Medical School in 1951. After training in the specialty of Internal Medicine in Vancouver and London, England, he qualified as a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons and he practiced in Burnaby and was on staff at Burnaby Hospital for many years. Upon his retirement Des enjoyed countless days on the slopes at Whistler and the fairways at Point Grey. He loved to rise early to walk the family's Cairn terriers. Above all, he loved his family, Margaret, his loving wife of 60 years, and his three children, Susan (Bruce), Nancy (John) and John (Helen and Brennan). He also leaves to mourn his much-loved grandson Stewart Prince, his sister in-law Kathleen and his many nieces and nephews. The family extends their thanks to the Home ViVE Plus program, ASK Friendship Centre and others who supported and cared for Des and his family throughout this difficult journey, and to Eleonor for the tender, daily care provided in the last year. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, December 1st from 1:00 - 4:00pm at Point Grey Golf & Country Club, 3350 S.W. Marine Drive, Vancouver. Should friends desire, the family asks that you kindly support the ASK Friendship Centre, the Burnaby Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice.
