MACE, Maureen Helen
Born August 2, 1947 in Calgary, Maureen died peacefully on November 13, 2012 in New Westminster, BC. Daughter of Margaret and Frank and little sister to Thomas (Tom) Mace, Maureen spent her childhood in the interior of BC. She attended the University of Victoria and graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts. Maureen loved to travel, and after university travelled the world for almost two years living in such diverse places as London, Greece and Israel before returning to first Victoria and then New Westminster. She started teaching in 1980 and spent her career teaching in Surrey, first at Guildford Park, then at Elgin Park, and then again at Guildford Park, where she retired in 2009. She was an amazing teacher who profoundly touched the lives of thousands of students. She also served as a mentor to countless colleagues over the years and was deeply respected by everyone who worked with her. Maureen was a beloved sister, friend, teacher, and aunt to Emily and Lorna. Her family and friends wish to thank Home Instead and all the nurses and staff of 6 North at Royal Columbian, particularly Kim and Donna. A service will be held in the spring and will be announced at the time. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Margaret and Frank Mace Bursaries at Guildford Park Secondary School: 10707 146 Street, Surrey BC, Canada, V3R 1T5 (604) 588-7601.
