Marjorie Hares August 20, 1920 - November 21, 2012 Born Marjorie Izod August 20, 1920 in Vancouver; died peacefully at Blenheim Lodge, a non-profit care home in Vancouver where she lived for the last 4 ½ years while struggling with dementia. Survived by her son, David Thomsett, his wife Andrea, granddaughters Jane and Mia, their husbands Steve Vorbrodt and Oliver Janousek and great grandson Henry Vorbrodt. She had a long career in human resources, starting at the Vancouver shipyard during WWII when she was crowned Miss War Worker. From the mid 1960's she interviewed and hired many of the staff at Eaton's department store and then carried out employment programs at Canada Manpower. She met her second husband, Walter Hares, when they both moved into the new community of Arbutus Village. It was a good marriage of 35 years and they had a wonderful time exploring the world. For half a year, they both lived at Blenheim Lodge until Walter died in 2010. He provided great comfort to her. Holding hands, they would watch old movies together. The family wishes to thank the loving and committed staff at Blenheim Lodge who were so kind when times were rough. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 3rd at the West Point Grey Presbyterian Church at 4397 West 12th Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blenheim Lodge, 3263 Blenheim Street, Vancouver, B.C., V6L 2X7.
