William Frederick (Bill) Hansen Nov 3, 1937 - Dec 4, 2012 After a courageous battle with illness, Bill has gone to be with the Lord.
The Guest Book is expired.
As a young man, Bill led a life of service as a captain (pastor) with the Salvation Army. Along the way, he had many achievements and adventures and gathered friends and admirers in communities large and small across Canada.
From 1976 to his retirement in 2002, Bill ran innovative alcohol and drug treatment programs in Vancouver and Richmond, at the Salvation Army Anchorage, at RADAT and at the Peak House treatment program for youth, which he started. Through his experience, intellect and compassion, he uplifted the lives of the people who went through the programs and the friends and colleagues he worked with.
His love of travel led him around the world, to Europe, China, Japan, South America and even Antarctica! Everywhere he went he was recognized as a special person and he valued the friends he collected along the way as deeply as the ones he maintained from his earlier years. His wit and dry sense of humour were legendary, and the smiles, laughter and happy times we had with him will always live on in our hearts.
Left to cherish his memory are Jacqueline, his wife and partner of 55 years; his sister Eva; six loving children: Leslie, Dawn, Tim, Mark, Kelly and Peri; seven grandchildren: Francis, Matt, Kayla, Peter, Christopher, Lacey, Katinka; and a great-grandson Carson.
A celebration of Bill`s life will be held Thurs, Dec 13, 2012 at 1 p.m. Salvation Army Cariboo Hill Church, 7195 Cariboo Road. Burnaby. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
