Robert Bertil Hallgren 1926-2012 Born in Vancouver in 1926 to Swedish immigrants Robert Bertil Hallgren grew up fast. His father died early, so he had to start working when he was just a young boy. Later, to his good fortune, while working in Jordan River, he met Elinor who would become his wife. He went on to have a very successful career in the forest industry with Rayonier, invented an air-foil for Boeing, built the town of Port McNeill, pioneered helicopter logging, ran his own construction company, was a consultant in Iran on a pulp and paper mill, and worked for Okanagan Helicopters. He travelled and worked in places from Borneo to Switzerland. He was the strong silent type but a total softie when it came to little kids and animals. His grandchildren, Nicolas, Mitchell, Alexis and Anastasia are grown now but they all loved their Papa. Bob had an incredible life and will be missed by his daughters, Gayle (Darcy Rezac) Tara (Michael Shuster), LP and Shorty, his friends, his brothers Gus, Peter and sister Eleanor, his Iranian pals, his caring girls, Juliet, Mona, Ida and Blenda. In the end he was asking for Elinor (predeceased in 2000). Now he can be with her. We would like to thank the incredible, compassionate staff at Lions Gate Hospital 4 East. He couldn't have received better care.
