SUTHERLAND, David
September 23, 1923 - December 3, 2012
David passed away peacefully following a lengthy illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Kathleen, son Stuart, daughter Ann and grandchildren, Daniel and Maya. David was born in Caithness, Scotland. He served in the 207th Squadron of the British Royal Air Force from 1943 to 1946 and was awarded the Star Defense Rear medal. David immigrated to Canada in 1957 and worked in real estate in Montreal and Toronto before finally retiring to Vancouver with Kathleen to be close to his beloved grandchildren. He was an active member of the Country Meadows Golf Club and the Air Crew Association. Our family would like to thank the staff of Ward 3B and Doctor Jeanne Keegan-Henry at Burnaby General Hospital for their care and support. Although we miss him we know he is now happy, playing the perfect round of golf at St. Andrews. According to his wishes, there will be no funeral but a celebration of his life will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity to support research on prostrate cancer that David worked so tirelessly for: Country Meadows Charity Golf Classic, Box 224, 185-9040 Blundell Road, Richmond, B.C., V6Y 1K3.

Our paths crossed briefly in the early 1990's, when David was searching for relatives of Canadian Airmen who also served in Squadron 207. David was very helpful in enabling my son MIchael and I locate the war service records of my Uncle Charlie Travers (also of Squadron 207), whom we sadly lost in 1944 over Berlin. Thanks David, for helping my family keep our dear Uncle's memory alive.

I am so saddened to hear of David's passing. I first met Dave as a fellow member of the Vancouver Video Production Club back in the early 90's. Dave was a keen videographer, and he was very eager to get on "tape" the memories and stories (before they were lost) from the friends he knew from his RAF days.
Dave and Kathy lived for many years (until recently) in the same building as my parents. They made my mom and dad feel very welcome when my parents moved into Carlton on the Park back in the late 90's. My mom passed away six years ago, but Dave and Kathy always had a kind word for my father when they would see each other in the building. My dad was very sorry to see them move away earlier this year.
My most sincere condolences to Kathy and to the entire family. Dave was a good guy, a fine gentleman. He will very much be missed.
