Wilhelm Karl Nolte July 7, 1936 to December 4, 2012 Wilhelm (Bill) Karl Nolte, 76, of Markoldendorf, Germany, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2012. His celebration of life will be held at 2pm on February 9, 2013 at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church at 1573 East 18th Avenue, Vancouver, BC. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation will be graciously accepted. Our Opa, Dad and friend will be missed by many.

Wilhelm was born in Markoldendorf/Hanover, Germany, on July 7, 1936. As a teen, he played the trumpet at Saint Martinskirche. Bill graduated from high school in Markoldendorf, and completed his Volkswagen mechanic's apprenticeship in Wolfsburg, Germany. When Bill was 19, he ventured to Canada on his own. He lived in Sudbury, Ontario for a year before settling in Vancouver. Bill was service manager for Clarkdale Motors in Vancouver, and then for Capilano Volkswagen. In 1973 Bill opened his own VW and Porsche repair shop, Diamond Volkswagen Repairs, in New Westminster, which he operated for many years. Bill was well-known as a compassionate, caring individual, who often helped those who could not afford car repairs.

Bill met Hannelore Kaufmann in English Bay. They got married at St.Mark's Church in 1964. Bill and Hanne built their house in Coquitlam, where they raised their daughters, Sabine and Monika. The Noltes hosted many parties. Bill had a real zest for life and enjoyed playing soccer, travelling and racing his Porsche at Westwood Plateau. Bill and Hanne also founded the Club Berlin in Vancouver in 1963, where they participated in and celebrated many cultural events. The Noltes spent a lot of time at their cabin in Sudden Valley, WA, enjoying boating, swimming and waterskiing with family and friends. Bill was a ski patrol at Mount Seymour and skied with his family at Baker and Whistler. Bill enjoyed the music of Ray Charles, Nat King Cole, Mahalia Jackson, Anne Murray and Floyd Kramer.

Wilhelm is survived by Hannelore Nolte, daughters Sabine Bell (her husband Cliff) and Monika Hamilton (her husband Nick), grandchildren Kristina, Adam and Anja, nieces, nephews and friends. Wilhelm was predeceased by his parents Ernst and Dorette, stepmother Frieda, brother Ernst, and sister Sigrid.
