PARKES, Robert George (Bob)
August 2, 1931 - December 21, 2012
Bob slipped away peacefully at 3:30 am on December 21st, 2012 after a brief battle with acute leukemia. His two great loves in life were his wife of 22 years, Grace Graham Parkes, and the International Order of Shriners. He was a proud member of Gizeh Shriners of BC/Yukon and headed this organization as Potentate in 1996. He belonged to Masonic Lodge #68, was a member of Tsawwassen Shrine Club and Langley Shrine Club. Bob belonged to the Cabiri (Past Potentates) and was a Emeritus Member of the Colorado Corporation. He was very active in the Gizeh Shrine Patrol for many years. Bob worked in the Wholesale Department of the Vancouver Sun and Province for the majority of his adult life, retiring in 1981. He leaves behind his loving wife Grace, daughter Lorie Ann Parkes, son Robert Edward Parkes (Kathy), his step-daughter Tracy Graham (Bruce), 3 grandchildren; Jesse, Brandon and Nicholas Parkes, nieces, nephew and first wife Lenore. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard, several years ago. Bob was very proud of his 'Irish' heritage, even though he was born in Vancouver, BC. Green was his favourite colour and he enjoyed listening to Irish music, especially "O Danny Boy". A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, December 29th, 2012 at Eureka Masonic Lodge, 20701 Fraser Hwy, Langley BC at 11:00 am. No flowers by request. A donation in Robert's name may be made to the Gizeh Shriner's Care Cruiser Programme, 3550 Wayburne Drive, Burnaby BC, V5G 3K9.
